Land Rover Discovery 1 2.0 Mpi petrol: timing belt & tensioner
Engine · Discovery 1 (1989–98) · 1993–1997
How often: every 60,000 mi or 5 yrs, whichever comes first. A broken belt on this 16-valve engine bends valves.
Bulkhead uses 60,000 miles / 5 years. Check the figure in your handbook.
Work safely: support the vehicle on axle stands, never a jack alone; let it cool first. Check figures against your workshop manual. You do this work at your own risk.
Parts
Timing belt kit (belt and tensioner)
Tools

Step by step
Follow your workshop manual: the camshafts need locking with the correct tool before the belt comes off.
Renew the tensioner with the belt. Check the water pump for weeping at the same time.
Turn the engine two full turns by hand and recheck the timing marks before starting.
