Land Rover Discovery Sport 2.0 Ingenium diesel: dpf & egr health check

Engine · Discovery Sport (2014 on) · 2015 on

How often: every 21,000 mi or 2 yrs, whichever comes first. Short trips stop the particulate filter regenerating. A blocked DPF puts the engine into limp mode and can dilute the oil with diesel.

Work safely: support the vehicle on axle stands, never a jack alone; let it cool first. Check figures against your workshop manual. You do this work at your own risk.

Step by step

  1. Check for any DPF or engine warnings.
  2. Read the soot loading and regeneration history with a diagnostic tool.
  3. If you mostly do short trips, drive at a steady speed on a main road for 20–30 minutes every week or two.
  4. Check the oil level is not rising (a sign of fuel dilution from failed regenerations).
