How often: every 21,000 mi or 2 yrs, whichever comes first. The core of every Land Rover service. Modern turbo engines and DPFs depend on the exact oil specification, not just the viscosity.
Many specialists halve this interval on high-mileage diesels, short-trip cars and anything that tows.
Engine oil
0W-20 to the STJLR specification on the filler cap (STJLR.51.5122 on most)
Oil capacity
≈5.5–5.9 L. Many later models have no dipstick: check the level in the instrument menu
Work safely: support the vehicle on axle stands, never a jack alone; let it cool first. Check figures against your workshop manual. You do this work at your own risk.

Step by step
Warm the engine, park level, and lift or raise the vehicle safely (on air suspension, select the jacking/workshop mode first so it does not move under you).
Remove the engine undertray. Drain the oil and renew the sump plug washer (some engines need a new plug).
Renew the filter: cartridge types unscrew the housing cap; fit the new O-rings supplied and tighten the cap to the torque on it.
Refill with 0W-20 to the STJLR specification on the filler cap (STJLR.51.5122 on most). Start, check for leaks, then check the level after a few minutes on the dipstick or in the instrument menu (≈5.5–5.9 L).
Reset the service indicator with the menu or a diagnostic tool, and log the service here.
