Land Rover Series I 2.0 diesel: injector test & service

Fuel & air · Series I (1948–58) · 1957–1958

How often: every 24,000 mi or 2 yrs, whichever comes first. Worn injectors cause smoke, knocking and hard starting.

Work safely: support the vehicle on axle stands, never a jack alone; let it cool first. Check figures against your workshop manual. You do this work at your own risk.

Parts
  • 4 × Injector washers & seals
  • 4 × Injector test & reset (specialist, if needed) (specialist)
Tools
  • Spanners
  • Injector puller if seized

Step by step

  1. Clean around each injector before you remove it.
  2. Remove the injectors and send them to a diesel specialist to test spray pattern and set the opening pressure.
  3. Refit with new copper washers and heat-shield seals. Bleed the system and check for leaks.
