Land Rover Series IIA 2.25 petrol: adjust drum brakes & handbrake
Brakes · Series IIA (1961–71) · 1961–1971
How often: every 6,000 mi or 6 months, whichever comes first. Series drum brakes need regular adjustment as the shoes wear.
Work safely: support the vehicle on axle stands, never a jack alone; let it cool first. Check figures against your workshop manual. You do this work at your own risk.

Chocks
Step by step
Chock the wheels and jack each wheel clear of the ground in turn.
Turn each snail-cam adjuster on the back-plate until the shoes lock the drum, then back it off until the wheel just turns freely.
Two-leading-shoe front brakes (109): adjust both cams on each wheel.
Handbrake: the drum is on the back of the transfer box. Adjust it at the back-plate adjuster until the lever holds the vehicle on 3–4 clicks.
Check the fluid level and road-test in a safe place.
