Range Rover Classic 2.4 / 2.5 VM turbodiesel: check coolant level, hoses and head gasket signs
Cooling · Range Rover Classic (1970–96) · 1986–1992
How often: every 3,000 mi or 3 months, whichever comes first. Each cylinder has its own head and gasket. Overheating lifts a head and blows its gasket; catching coolant loss early saves the engine.
Work safely: support the vehicle on axle stands, never a jack alone; let it cool first. Check figures against your workshop manual. You do this work at your own risk.

Step by step
Check the coolant level cold, every week if you tow.
Look for bubbles in the expansion tank with the engine running, and for white smoke or coolant loss.
Check the hoses and the viscous fan. Any overheating at all: stop and investigate before driving on.
