Range Rover P38 4.0 / 4.6 V8: suspension bushes, arms & dampers

Suspension · Range Rover P38 (1994–2002) · 1994–2002

How often: every 12,000 mi or year, whichever comes first. Worn radius arm and panhard rod bushes make the vehicle wander and can start a wobble.

Work safely: support the vehicle on axle stands, never a jack alone; let it cool first. Check figures against your workshop manual. You do this work at your own risk.

Parts
  • Radius arm / trailing link bushes (if worn)
  • Panhard rod bushes (if worn)
  • Shock absorbers (if leaking)
Tools
  • Pry bar
  • Torch

Step by step

  1. Lever gently at each bush: radius arms, panhard rod, rear trailing links and A-frame ball joint.
  2. Check coil springs are seated correctly in their pans and not cracked.
  3. Check shock absorbers for leaks and the mounting turrets for rust.
